Major Tom taking flight.
The week David Bowie passed away I was attending the Bangkok Video Journalism & Filmmaking Workshop, all the students were asked to make a short film about the main train station in Bangkok called Hualamphong as their final project. I came up with the idea after my first concept didn't work out, I saw a young lady wearing headphones and I thought wouldn't it be funny if she was listening to Davie Bowie, then I started to play with the idea of Bowie been everywhere.
I found some very rare footage of David Bowie's Serious Moonlight Tour in Thailand and decided to incorporate that footage into my project. The Serious Tour was Bowie's longest, largest and most successful concert tour of his career. The tour opened at the Vorst Forest Nationaal, Brussels, on 18 May 1983 and ended in the Hong Kong Coliseum on 8 December 1983; 15 countries visited, 96 performances, and over 2.6M tickets sold. You could say I wasn't too much of a fan of David Bowie before but now I am, not because of his music but for the things he did out side the music world. He played in Bangkok on December 5th.
Major Tom was released when I was only 10 months old some 47 years ago, Major Tom stands the test of time, a brilliant song.
